General Comments:
The earliest well documented ancestor is James Franklin Davidson (1839-1920). James was a son of a man named either Samuel T. (1840 Census) or John T. Davidson (family records) or Elias Davidson (death certificate) who died before the 1850 census. He was married to Esther Brandon, daughter of Francis Brandon and Nancy Davidson. Nancy was a daughter of Elias Davidson (b. 1762, PA, d. 1816, York Co., SC) and Margaret Hanna; and a grandaughter of a John Davidson Sr. (b. est. 1734, d. abt 1816, SC) and his wife Margaret; and probably a great-granddaughter of John Davidson and Margaret Henry of Chester Co., PA.
DNA now proves that James Franklin Davidson's paternal ancestry is likely that he is also descended from John and Margaret Davidson, but the lineage is not yet discovered. |

Samuel/John T. Davidson is the earliest known ancestor. However, the DNA result shows that he descends from the John Davidson & Margaret Henry line from Chester Co., PA.
His wife Esther Brandon was a daughter of Francis Brandon (1786-1840) and Nancy Davidson (1792-1880). Her brother John F. Brandon married Mary Lenora Davidson who was a sister of Samuel/John T. Davidson.
Further, Esther's mother was a daughter of Elias Davison/Davidson (1762, PA - 1816, York Co., SC) and Margaret Hanna, daughter of Capt. James Hanna and Jean Black.
Elias Davison/Davidson was a son of John Davidson & Margaret who would fit as the John Davidson who was a son of John Davidson and Margaret Henry of Chester Co., PA. The DNA seems to validate this connection.
A lot of traditional genealogy has been done on these families and much of it seems to be unproven. More DNA work needs to be done to confirm which families are part of the family. However, this result will enable researchers to focus their paper-trail research more effectively.
