Davidson Family Genealogy

These pages document the Davidson family of Iredell Co., North Carolina and the allied families, such as Hall, Sloan, Dickey, Reese, Beall, and many others.

My principal interest is the family of John Davidson who emigrated with his family to America from Ireland in the 1730s. His family was Scottish, and he came first to Pennsylvania and quickly moved on to Virginia where he purchased land in Beverly Manor in Augusta Co. in about 1740. In about 1748, he moved on to what is now Iredell County and with his son surveyed a new homestead. He died shortly after his family moved to North Carolina.

The Davidsons became some of the large plantation owners in the area. But, by the beginning of the 19th century, land was becoming scarce and there was a new frontier out in Tennesse. Abner Davidson and several of his brothers moved to Bedford Co., Tennessee during the 1820s. After getting established in Tennessee, along came the War and its disruptions. John Davidson died in the War and his family moved West to Memphis area where Thomas Ogburn Davidson took a job with the Railroad.

Eventually, Tom Davidson moved to San Antonio, Texas and married Laura Charles. Their daughter Artemesia married a Thomas Gates Lisle who was from Ohio, but running a business in Birmingham, Alabama. They married and shortly afterwards moved back to Ohio.

This is research still underway, and anyone with an interest or connection with this family is requested to write to me.
