Thomas Stedman was born in 1698 in Brookline, MA. He was known as Thomas Stedman, Jr., although he was the third of that name in succession. His father was also known as Thomas Stedman, Jr. Identifying records can sometimes be a challenge.
He married, April 9, 1724, Anna Seaver, born in 1699. Children, first four born in Massachusetts, others in Windham: James, born at Brookline, 1725; John, at Brookline, 1727; Anna, at Brookline, 1729; Thomas , mentioned below; Mary, August 15, 1734, died April 20, 1753; Sarah, October 30, 1736; Elizabeth, April 30, 1738; Lucy, March 8, 1740; Patience, April 17, 1743; Daniel, December 9, 1745; Easter, September 25, 1748.
His family removed to Hampton, Windham Co., Connecticut about 1731. He and his wife joined the church in Hampton November, 1732, and on December 3, 1733, he was chosen deacon.
He was a carpenter and joiner by trade and built the meeting house in Windham, Connecticut, which was dedicated in March, 1754.
On 3 December 1731, Thomas Stedman and his wife purchased 150 acres of land from Nathan Kingsbury about one and a quarter miles east of north of the meeting house in Hampton, and his two story dwelling house was occupied in 1858 by Lewis Fuller. Deacon Thomas Stedman lived on this farm till 20 Jan 1761, when he gave the deed of it, then containing 170 acres, to his son James Stedman, and went to live on another farm which his son Daniel lived on, adjoining.
He was killed April 9, 1773, at age 75 by falling from a load of logs and the wheel passing over him. His wife, Anna, died April 20, 1787, aged eighty-eight years.
